Our Alpacas
Our small herd of male Alpaca’s are known as ‘The Moppets’. They live in a paddock next to the Dog Field. They joined us in May 2021 and are our much-loved pets.
They are quite used to dogs being in the field next door, but we would be grateful if you could discourage your dog from barking at them. Please don’t feed the Moppets, they are on a special diet and can become poorly very quickly if fed the wrong foods. The boys are very nosey but not keen on being touched!
Meet the boys below:
Kenco
Kenco is Dark Brown and 4 years old. Kenco is the head of the Herd.
Chase
Chase is our largest boy. He’s a Solid Mid Fawn colour and is 5 years old. Chase is second in command!
Pablo
Pablo is a solid light fawn colour and is much smaller than Chase. He’s 4 years old and third in command.
Wallace
Wallace is our smallest boy and is 5 years old. He’s more or less white in colour. Wallace is 4th in command!
We are often asked what’s the difference between Alpacas and Llamas. The most notable differences are their size, hair and face shapes. Alpacas are smaller than Llamas and have smaller blunt faces with short ears. Llamas have more elongated faces with banana sized ears! Alpaca’s hair is used in fleece production and Llamas are used as pack animals.
Alpaca Poop
Alpaca poo is often referred to as “beans” because it looks like little black beans. Some even refer to it as “magic beans” because it is such a fantastic plant food and soil conditioner.
It naturally contains Nitrogen, Phosphorus and Potassium but in smaller percentages than commercial fertilisers. This is good not only for your plants but also for the earth. It also contains secondary nutrients such as calcium, magnesium and sulphur that supplement a plant’s feeding needs.
What can the poo do?!
It's great for soil! Alpaca poo loosens hard clay soil and binds sandy soil. No matter what your soil type, alpaca poo will improve how water holds and moves.
Perfect for plants
Alpaca poo doesn’t burn plants. It carries secondary nutrients into your soil and plants that aren’t found in commercial fertilizers.
It can be made into a liquid feed for houseplants, used straight from the field or dried. It can be used at any time of the year.
Our Alpaca Poop is called ‘Moppet Gold’ and is sold in large rubble bags. A bag can be purchased from us for £2.50 or 5 bags for £10.
